Hotel Review: Kimpton EPIC Miami – A Luxe Pre-Cruise Stay in the Heart of Downtown

View from Terrace
This one bedroom water view suite had a great view.
Planning a cruise out of Miami? I recently stayed at the Kimpton EPIC Hotel in downtown Miami the night before setting sail—and let me tell you, it was a pretty “EPIC” way to start a trip.

Whether you’re looking for skyline views, a beautiful rooftop pool, or a hotel that’s just a quick Uber ride to the cruise port, this might be the perfect pre-cruise spot.

First Impressions & Location

Kimpton EPIC is located right in the heart of downtown Miami, just steps from the Bayside Marketplace and a quick ride from PortMiami. I arrived via Uber and was greeted by a friendly doorman before stepping into the sleek, modern lobby. If you’re driving yourself, valet parking is available.

Fun fact: the hotel is built along a marina, and from the lobby windows, you can often spot yachts docked just outside!

I was warmly welcomed by the staff as I entered the lobby—an elegant space with floor-to-ceiling windows and, to my surprise, views of yachts docked just outside. You’re just a short walk from Bayside Marketplace and a 10–15 minute drive to South Beach if you’re craving sand and surf.

Relaxing at the Rooftop Pool

Since my room wasn’t quite ready when I arrived, I made my way to the 16th-floor rooftop pool. With sun loungers, umbrellas, and rentable cabanas, it’s a relaxing space to unwind post-flight or pre-cruise. Poolside service is available, and there’s even a bar for light bites and drinks.

🌬 Heads-up: On both my visits, the pool area was very windy—possibly due to the building’s height and position.

Dining Options at the Hotel

If you’re ready for a sit-down meal, head to Area 31, also located on the 16th floor, with water views and a seafood-focused menu.

Want something more elevated? The ground floor houses Zuma, a sleek Japanese restaurant known for its modern style and buzzing atmosphere.

But after a long travel day, I went for room service—buffalo chicken wings, a salmon Caesar salad, asparagus, and sparkling water. Everything arrived promptly and hit the spot.

Inside the 1 Bedroom Waterview Suite

Once my room was ready, I headed up to my corner suite with a view of the Miami River—and wow, what a view! From sunrise to sunset, the river buzzes with activity: pleasure boats, music-blaring yachts, and plenty of people-watching.

The suite included:

  • A cozy living area with sofa, TV, and dining table

  • A fully furnished balcony with loungers and chairs

  • A bedroom with a king bed and floor-to-ceiling windows

  • A spacious closet and reading chair

While the room was amazing, do note that the river traffic can be noisy at times—especially when the nearby drawbridge lifts for yachts.

It felt like having my own mini-spa in the suite.

Final Thoughts: Is Kimpton EPIC Right for You?

If you’re looking for beach access, this isn’t the spot—South Beach is a 20-minute drive away, and this hotel doesn’t include a beach club.

But for pre-cruise convenience, luxurious rooms, and an incredible downtown vibe? Kimpton EPIC is a winner. Bonus: it’s available on ResortPass, which I’ve used in the past for a day room when I had a late flight after a cruise.

🚗 My last trip from hotel to Virgin Voyages cruise terminal took 10 minutes flat—from Uber pickup to check-in. Now that’s what I call smooth sailing.
