Embarking on a 13-night transatlantic voyage with Virgin Voyages from Reykjavik to New York City promises an adventure filled with diverse cultures, breathtaking landscapes, and unforgettable experiences. Here’s a casual guide to the ports of call and must-see highlights at each destination:
Ports of Call
Reykjavik, Iceland

Reykjavik, Iceland
Starting the journey in Iceland's capital. I plan to arrive a couple of days in advance so I can explore the area before getting on the ship. A must-visit is the iconic Hallgrímskirkja Church, towering over the city with its unique architecture. For relaxation, the nearby Blue Lagoon provides geothermal pool in scenic surroundings.
Ísafjörður, Iceland

Ísafjörður, Iceland
Nestled in the Westfjords, Ísafjörður is a charming town surrounded by dramatic fjords. Explore the Maritime Museum to delve into the region's fishing heritage, or take a hike in the nearby mountains for panoramic views.

Prince Christian Sound, Greenland (Cruising)

Prince Christian Sound, Greenland (Cruising)
As the ship navigates through this stunning 66-mile fjord, you'll witness towering cliffs, majestic glaciers, and perhaps even some floating icebergs. It's a photographer's dream, so have your camera ready!
Qaqortoq, Greenland

Qaqortoq, Greenland
Qaqortoq is known for its colorful houses and rich history. Visit the Mindebrønden (Memorial Fountain), the oldest fountain in Greenland, adorned with bronze whale sculptures. Another highlight is the Church of Our Saviour, a wooden Lutheran church dating back to 1832, offering insights into the town's cultural heritage.

Entertainment and Nightlife
Plenty to do on sea days on a Virgin Voyages cruise and especially enjoy these entertainment options: Themed Parties – The famous Scarlet Night is a must, along with other themed events. Live Music & Performances – From rock bands to DJ sets, The Manor and The Red Room host nightly entertainment. Interactive Shows – Expect unique and immersive performances rather than traditional Broadway-style productions. Casino & Gaming – A small but lively casino offers slots and table games. I won $3400 on a slot machine during my January 2025 cruise! Karaoke & Trivia Nights – Sing your heart out at The Groupie or test your knowledge with fun trivia events.
Nuuk, Greenland

Nuuk, Greenland
As one of the world's smallest capital cities, Nuuk offers a unique blend of traditional Inuit culture and modernity. The Greenland National Museum is a must-see, housing artifacts that tell the story of Greenland's past, including the famous Qilakitsoq mummies.

Enrichment and Social Events
Enjoy various events on your sea days and you might even have a chance to learn something. Workshops & Talks – Special guest speakers, wellness sessions, and creative workshops. Cooking & Cocktail Classes – Learn how to make gourmet dishes or craft the perfect cocktail. I took the Path of the Negroni class on my July 2024 cruise on the Scarlet Lady and loved it. St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada

St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada
St. John's boasts a vibrant arts scene and rich history. Signal Hill offers panoramic views of the city and is the site where Marconi received the first transatlantic wireless signal. Stroll through the colorful streets of Jellybean Row to experience the city's unique charm.
Sea Day

Relaxation & Leisure
Lots of ways to relax when onboard the ships. Sunbathing & Pool Time – The Aquatic Club pool and VIP areas like Richard’s Rooftop. I'm not sure if the pools will get much use on this sailing, but the hot tubs are sure to be popular. Sip Lounge & Cozy Hangouts – Chill at The Dock with sea views or grab a book at the Reading Room. Board Games & Tournaments – Casual and competitive options available at social hubs. Our group especially liked Puzzle Races.
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
Halifax is known for its maritime heritage and coastal beauty. A visit to the Halifax Waterfront is essential, where you can explore historic sites, enjoy fresh seafood, and take in the bustling harbor views.

Unique Virgin Voyages Touches
As an adult only cruise, there are some things Virgin Voyages can do, that other cruise lines cannot. Tattoo Studio – Get inked at Squid Ink, the only tattoo parlor at sea. Drag Performances & Bingo – Expect high-energy, hilarious shows with top drag queens. Don't miss Bingo with the Diva (also because the pots can get pretty large so you can win real money). Adult-Only Vibes – No kids, just adults looking to have fun, relax, and connect.
New York City

New York City, New York, USA
Conclude your voyage in the iconic New York City. From the Statue of Liberty to Central Park, the city's attractions are endless. Take a stroll through Times Square or visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art to immerse yourself in the city's vibrant culture.
Transatlantic cruises often have extra sea days, which means plenty of time to enjoy these offerings without feeling rushed! What are you most looking forward to?
